This festival combines music, art and activism to uplift spirits and spread awareness.

Lineup:
MICHAEL FRANTI AND SPEARHEAD
INDIGO GIRLS
K'NAAN
HOT BUTTERED RUM
and more!

The Festival began humbly in 1999 as an international day of art and culture in support of political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal. The name and date ”911” were chosen to call attention to the emergency status of Mumia's impending execution and drew roughly 6,000 people to the Mission's Dolores Park. In 2000, PTTP expanded; showing support for all prisoners on death row, and speaking out against the exponential growth of the prison industrial complex.

When the attacks of September 11th, 2001 occurred, the festival took on a new significance, serving both as a day of remembrance for the lives lost in the tragedy as well as a day in which Northern Californians called for and end to all bombing around the globe. The 2002 and 2003 events offered a space for healing and compassion for all the people killed or displaced by terrorism and the war on terrorism. By this time, the festival had outgrown Dolores Park, and was resituated in the lush mile acre of Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park, with over 20,000 people attending. In 2004 the festival was themed "Stand up and be Counted", encouraging people to get out and vote. Last year's festival, themed "Bring 'Em Home" emphasized that the best way to support our troops is to bring them home now and drew upwards of 50,000 attendees participating in a day of music, art and social justice.

Sunday 9am - 6pm
FREE ENTRANCE ALL WEEKEND!

http://wef.ucdavis.edu/

The mission of the Whole Earth Festival (since 1969) is to envision and create a community-driven festival of education, music, and art. We will ensure that as little ‘waste’ as possible is generated during this festival. Frugality and ecological sustainability come hand in hand, as we educate and engage the festival goers, we are careful with the resources we create and consume.

We will rely on each other more and rely on corporations and oil less, by carpooling and sharing our homes. Most importantly, we want to create a safe, educational, and inspiring environment not simply just for the three days we set up on the Quad. We want to develop a conscious community that will go out into the world after the festival and encourage the values that we hold dear. We are all equal participants in the conscious creation that is the Whole Earth Festival.

The How Weird Street Faire is an annual gathering of the unique subcultures that thrive within San Francisco's community. Four City blocks filled with crafts and art, music and dancing, performers and merriment. Four stages of music and live performance. Fun for the whole family, kids can play in the Grass Garden while adults play in the streets. Proceeds benefit two community nonprofits.
This year's theme centers on the day being both May Day and International Worker's Day -- a day where people across the world celebrate the coming of spring, of rebirth, of equality and fairness and the hope of a peaceful year to come.
This celebration of creative vibrancy gathers artists, musicians, dancers, and performers from across the Bay Area and fosters an engaging environment where participants share in the experience of creative self-expression. At 8pm the stages will be converted into a massive drum circle and collective jam, illuminated by a festival of light and images by several prominent San Francisco VJs and light artists.

The Green Festival will bring and connect groups and individuals who share a desire to build an alternative economy, but may not have had the forum to work together.

The Green Festival attendees will help build the constituency for government and institutional policies aimed at strengthening the local, sustainable economy. We will involve career centers and job placement services so attendees can explore occupational opportunities in the emerging green economy. In 2001 the day of September 11th took on a wider significance as a result of the tragic loss of life by the attacks of the day. Spring 2003

Easter Sunday 4/20
We The Planet
Speedway Meadow, Golden Gate PArk
San Francisco
10am-5pm

Behind “We The Planet” (WTP) is one of the world’s most passionate and well known activists, Julia Butterfly Hill. Julia is known for climbing a 1,000 year old redwood tree in 1997, and remaining there without touching the ground for over two years, in a successful effort to call worldwide attention to the destruction California’s ancient redwoods and the environment. Julia is a best selling author, and over the years, has spoken at universities, addressed the UN, lobbied Congress, and has continued to stand on the front lines of environmental and social justice issues all over the world. While doing so, she began envisioning what she feels is the ultimate tour in sustainability.

WTP is a festival and two month bio-diesel tour, presented by and benefiting the non-profit organization Circle Of Life. WTP will feature well known musicians/actors, and frontline activists, addressing global issues within the context of local communities.
WTP is a solution-oriented tour. We all know that we live in a world full of problems; WTP will demonstrate that we also live in a world full of solutions. We recognize that the U.S. is making the largest impact on the planet, which is why our efforts will be focused on choices made by the people of this country.
WTP seeks to redefine our sense of personal and global responsibilities and what is hip. Much of what is currently considered cool, a status symbol, and convenient is actually harmful to the planet and to our selves. Why is it that things considered good for you and the planet are called alternative? We can re-define what is cool though our choices, our purchases, and our actions.
